Nashville tornadoes in the United States claimed the lives of 25 people
Nashville - As many as 25 people died in a tornado that swept across the central area of the State of Tennessee, United States, on Tuesday (3/3).
"This is a tragic day for our state. It is sad," Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said as quoted by CNN on Wednesday (3/4).
According to the US National Weather Service, an EF-3 tornado damaged eastern Nashville, Donelson, and Mount Juliet. The disaster occurred at night when the residents were resting and sleeping.
According to the Nashville Metropolitan Police report, the couple Michael Dolfini (36) and Albree Sexton (33), died swept away by the rubble that was carried by thousands of winds when leaving Attaboy Lounge.
Other deaths were recorded in Putnam County (19 people), Wilson County (three people), Davidson County (two people) and in Benton County (one person).
The mayor of Nashville, John Cooper, stated that the tornado caused 48 buildings to collapse, and a number of other buildings were slightly damaged to severe.
In addition, 150 residents were treated for injuries. Rescuers, firefighters, paramedics and police are still examining the wreckage to find other victims.
Country music house singer and winner of the fifth season of American Idol, Taylor Hicks, located in Germantown, Nashville, was also damaged by a tornado.
"Many houses are flat. There are also churches damaged by tornadoes. There are many people affected in downtown Nashville. It's a hard night," Hicks said.
President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the victims of the tornado.
"We offer prayers to every affected family and we will recover and rebuild," Trump said.
