Sanna Marin became the Prime Minister of Finland after being elected by the Social Democratic party that sheltered it. Becoming a prime minister at the age of 34, he made history as the youngest prime minister in the world.
The woman who previously served as Minister of Transport and Communication was announced as prime minister on Sunday (12/08/2019), replacing Antti Rinne. Antti resigned on Tuesday (3/12/2019), after his party said it no longer trusted him over the handling of the mass strike.
Sanna Marin itself is a member of the largest party in a five-party coalition. When appointed, the mother of one child said she would rebuild public confidence in the government.
"We have a lot of work to rebuild trust," Sanna was quoted as saying by Channel News Asia.
In her speech Sanna also touched on age and gender in the world of politics.
"I never thought about age and gender, I thought about the reasons why I went into politics and the things that made us win the trust of voters," he said, reported by the Guardian.
Sanna Marin plunged into politics since the age of 27 years. At that time he served as mayor of Tampere in Pirkanmaa, southern Finland. Then on 6 June 2019 he was appointed Minister of Transportation and Communication.
